The crew of MRQ Port Douglas provide 24 hours a day, 7 days a week rescue and assist services to the boating community within Douglas Shire coastal waters.
Our base is located adjacent to the Port Douglas boat ramp, in a building that was constructed more than 40 years ago by dedicated volunteers who set out to actively assist mariners in distress by all available means.
Today, our crews continue that work and deliver rescues and assistance on the water, raise awareness of marine safety amongst the Douglas boating community, and provide volunteer opportunities for those who want to give back to their local community with a group of like-minded volunteers. Some volunteers even use volunteering as an opportunity to start a career in the marine industry.
Our volunteer crews are the lifeblood of the squadron and if you’d like to become part of a vibrant organisation that provides vital safety services to the local boating community, we’d love to welcome you aboard.
No matter where you come from or your skill level, there’s a job for almost everyone - whether it is crewing one of our vessels, maintaining radio communications at the base, or providing on-land support to keep the operation afloat.
Even if you don’t have on-water experience, volunteers who have technical, practical, administrative, or life skills can contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of our unit.

MRQ Port Douglas operates in conjunction with local VMR and AVCGA units to provide support to the boating community. If you require support when travelling in the region outside our area, contact QF9 Cairns or QF16 Cooktown.
Remember to always follow the marine safety rules and continue to Log On and Log Off via your local unit or VHF radio
