Marine Rescue Queensland has stepped up to provide support to flood affected communities as part of Queensland’s emergency services’ response in North Queensland.

On 6 February, six volunteers from MRQ Mackay and MRQ Jacobs Well travelled north on two MRQ vessels to assist with the transport of emergency services personnel, food, water, and other essential supplies around the Townsville and Hinchinbrook areas.

During their time in the north, the team have transported personnel from the QLD SES and NSW Rural Fire Service to isolated communities and assisted in packing and transporting vital equipment and goods to flood-affected areas.

On 10 February, a second deployment of five volunteers from MRQ Gladstone, MRQ Jacobs Well and MRQ Currumbin were flown to Townsville to relieve the team and continue on-water support in the region alongside local emergency services crews.

As Queensland’s first statewide volunteer marine rescue service, MRQ is proud to be able to deploy crews to where they are needed most and provide support to our emergency services colleagues in North Queensland.
